Introducing Oak Moon Cafe: A New Late-Night Vegetarian Hub for Sligo

Yeats Society Sligo is thrilled to announce the launch of Oak Moon Café, an innovative late-night vegetarian café experience designed to enhance Sligo’s night-time offerings. This exciting new venture opened its doors on 15th August, offering a cosy, alcohol-free environment, where the community can gather, enjoy light refreshments, board and card games, music and comedy.

Oak Moon Café will be open from 4 PM to 9 PM on Thursdays and Fridays, featuring a selection of light refreshments including coffee, teas, cold drinks, cakes, and a variety of tapas-style food. On Saturdays 4 PM to 9 PM , the café will, in addition, offer a selection of wines and spritzers. The café will be a fully vegetarian venue, ensuring all food options are suitable for vegetarian diets.

Located at Yeats Building, Hyde Bridge, Lower O’Connell St, Knappagh Beg, Sligo, F91 DVY4, Oak Moon Café is more than just a café; it is a vibrant venue for community engagement and pop-up events. The space has been beautifully reimagined to include both indoor and outdoor covered areas, making it an ideal location for a variety of events.

Edel Doran, Sligo’s Night Time Economy Advisor, Sligo BID, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “Sligo BID are delighted and excited to see the launch of this exciting project. We surveyed the public to ask them what they wanted to see for the evening and night-time in Sligo town, and a late-night café and a sober alternative to gather were both points that were highlighted back to us. It has been a privilege to work with Yeats Society on this project. They really wanted to bring this new offering to the community to meet the need expressed by the public and have worked tirelessly to bring it to life and try this evening experiment. It’s such a fantastic space, I can’t wait to see what happens next!”

The development of Oak Moon Cafe has been generously supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. Its commitment to fostering a vibrant night-time economy in Sligo has been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.

Director Yeats Society Sligo Susan O’Keeffe said: “We are keen to play our part in helping to build the night-time economy and are delighted to be involved with this project. We look forward to making people welcome in this special space and to encouraging and supporting performances and entertainment for the evening audience.

The success of Oak Moon Café will depend on the engagement and feedback from the local community. We invite everyone to visit, share their thoughts, and help shape the future of this new venture. Your support is vital in determining whether this pilot project can extend beyond its initial run.
