Sligo BID is thrilled to have had the opportunity to ask the universally renowned illustrator and true Sligonian, Annie West, in commissioning a special limited-edition series of annual posters that reflect the essence of Sligo. Starting in 2024 and under 5 themes, Annie will design a unique illustration of Sligo each year. The 5 themes are mythology, culture, landscape, heritage and Sligo outdoors.
Annie has created very special mementoes of Sligo; the award-winning illustrator’s most popular works locally include the popular series of maps for the Sligo Walks and the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2014 & 2015 posters. Is it small wonder that more than 105 visual works of original pen and ink illustrations and over 200 pages of drafts and notes were archived with the National Library of Ireland in March this year.
The 2024 ‘Mythology’ poster depicting Queen Maeve are now printed and available to purchase at the Sligo BID Tourist office on O’Connell Street (A3 poster size at €5.00 with poster tube) and Mullaney Bros, O’Connell St and will make a great gift for family members, friends or visitors to this land of saints, scholars and (of course) queens.
As this is a Collector’s Edition running from 2024 – 2029, once the 2024 posters are gone, there will not be a reprint – ever! This is an ideal gift to send to family and friends abroad and spread a fantastic illustration of Sligo and its myths and legends.
